Coconut chutney(narial ka chutney)


  • Coconut peices              :     1 cup
  • Rai, jera and urad dal     :     1 tea spoon each
  • Chana dal                      :     1 table spoon
  • Green chillies                 :     3 to 4 nos.
  • Red chillies                    :     2 to 3 nos.
  • Tamarind                       :     a half lemon size ball
  • Salt                               :     1 tea spoon ( as per taste)
  • Gud or sugar(optional)    :     1 tea spoon
  • Curry leaves                  :     6 to 8 leaves
  • OIl                                :     1 table spoon


Heat 1\2 table spoon oil in a pan and add rai and jeera. When rai starts spluttering add chana dal and urad dal.  Fry to golden color, add green chillies  fry and switch off the flame. Grind this along with coconut pieces , tamarind, gud and salt into fine paste adding sufficient water.

Heat 1\2 table spoon oil, add rai.  When rai pops out add red chillies, hing and curry leaves. Add this thadka to the coconut chutney.  The coconut chutney is ready...............This chutney can be served with idly, dosa or rice.
