Loki ki chutney

Ingredients for Loki ki chutney


  • 250 gms loki (bottle gourd)
  • 1 tea spoon Rai (mustard)
  • 1 tea spoon Jeera (cumin)
  • 2 tea spoons chana dal
  • 1 tea spoon urad dal
  • 4 to 5 garlic flakes (if you like)
  • half lemon size tamarind
  • 4 to 5 green chillies
  • 1 table spoon oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt (asper taste)
  • For tadka
  • 5 to 6  curry leaves
  • 1/2 tea spoon rai
  • 1/2 tea spoon jeera
  • 1/2 tea spoon urad dal
  • 2 to 3 red chillies
  • a pinch of hing
  • 2 tea spoons of oil

Wash, peel  and chop loki to small pieces.   Heat 1 table spoon oil in a pan.  Fry 1tsp mustard,1tsp jeera, 1tsp urad dal, 2 tsp chana dal and green chillies until golden color and keep them aside let them cool.  In the same oil put the chopped loki pieces and tamarind and cook in a medium flame until loki becomes tender.  Let it cool.

In a mixie first grind the fried ingredients (rai,jeera,chanadal,udaldal and green chilles) well and then add the cooked loki peices and tamarind.  Grind to fine paste adding salt garlic flakes(optional).

Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan add mustard, jeera and urad dal.  when rai starts spluttering add red chillies, hing and curry leaves.  Fry and add the thadka to the chutney.  Tasty loki chutney is ready.......tastes good with rotis, chapatis, rice, idlis or dosa.....Try will like it............
