Shrimp Biryani/Royyala Biryani

Ingredients for Shrimp Biryani


300 grams shrimp or 1 pound shrimp

3 cups Basmathi Rice

1 big onion

3 tea spoons Ginger Garlic paste

6 or 7   spicy green  chillies

9 or 10 cloves

1 table spoon shajeera

1 and  1/2 " cinnanam  sticks

1 small cup curd 9 (four table spoons)

3 table spoons Ghee

3 table spoons Oil

2 tea spoon salt

3 table spoon lemon juice

1 tea spoon turmeric (haldi/pasupu)

4 cups of water 

cilantro or kothimeera


1. Make paste of ginger and garlic.

2. Make paste of chillies.

3. Clean the shrimp and marinate for 1/2 hour  with little salt ,Haldi and 1 tea spoon of         ginger garlic paste.

4. Wash the rice and keep it aside  for 15 mts.

Heat  oil in a pan or Pressure Cooker . First put spices of Cloves, cinnamon sticks and shajeera,  fry for 30 seconds, now  add chopped onions and two whole chillies to it .  Fry until they turn to golden color. Now add remaining ginger,garlic and  green chillie paste to let it fry one minute.   Add shrimp to it, fry for 2 mts.  Add curd  and add soaked rice . Fry all these for 2 minutes . Then add 4 cups water to it, add salt,  just cover the lid and   keep it  on low flame for 1/2 hr. 

 If you are using  pressure cooker, put the whistle  and keep it on  low flame for  just 23 minutes ( do not  put it on high flame). Open the lid when it is ready.  Add ghee and lemon juice to it and garnish with cilantro . Tasty Shrimp Biryani /Royyala Biryani/Jinga Biryani is ready..............Serve hot with onion raita...........
