Chana dal ke vade (Chenagapappu vadalu)


  • 1 cup chana dal  (Bengal gram)
  • 4 to 5 green chillies
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger
  • 1 tea spoon jeera
  • 8 to 10 curry leaves
  • a pinch of hing
  • 1 tea spoon salt (as per taste)
  • a pinch of soda bicarb
  • finely chopped mint leaves (optional)
  • oil for deep fry


Clean wash and soak chana dal for 2 to 3 hours.  Drain the water.  Grind to a coarse paste adding ginger and green chillies.  (Do not add water while grinding)  To this add salt, curry leaves, chopped mint leaves, jeera, hing and finely chopped onions and mix well.   Heat oil for deep fry in a pan.  Take a small balls of the batter on a plastic sheet.  Press and flatten them. Deep fry until golden brown, drain and serve hot with any chutney or sauce............garam garam Chana dal vada(chenagapappu vadalu)  are ready enjoy.....
